A historic victory for the far-right in Germany

Elections were held in Saxony-Anhalt in eastern Germany.
It is one of the 16 states that make up Germany.
The far-right party 'Alternative for Germany' won about 45% of the votes.
In the previous elections, it received only about 21%.
The conservative party of Germany's chancellor received about 17%.

In the previous elections, it received about 37%. Despite the major victory, it is still unclear if the far-right can form a government. Most parties refuse to work with them.
If the party comes to power, it will be the first time since World War II that a far-right party governs one of Germany's states.
