People sent an envelope to the mayor of the town. Inside the envelope was a bullet and also a threat letter. The writers demanded that no more Israelis come to the town. They wrote that if it continues, they will start shooting.
The mayor of the town was shocked by the letter. He said that the Israelis helped the town. He said they have a good relationship with the residents.
The police opened an investigation. They are trying to find those responsible. Leaders in Italy condemned the act. The President of Italy called the town mayor and said he supports the community.
This incident comes at a time of rising antisemitism. Jews in various countries in Europe report violence and threats. The Israeli families in Varallo hope the investigation will conclude quickly.
