"Hagar - The Land" won the award for Best Israeli Film in Haifa

The Haifa Film Festival showcases films from Israel and around the world.
During the festival, the judges select the best films.
This year, "Hagar - The Land" by director Shmuel Beru won the Best Israeli Film award.
The film tells the story of a Jewish family in Ethiopia in 1973.

Sarah wants to leave the village and immigrate to Israel with the children. Her husband Yitzhak is a farmer. He wants to stay home and continue working on his land.
Later, Yitzhak sends Sarah and the children on a dangerous journey through Sudan on their way to Israel. He stays in Ethiopia. The film portrays the desire to reach Israel and the difficulty of leaving home and family.
The judges praised the story, the actors, and the direction. They explained that the film emotionally depicts the lives of Ethiopian Jews during a difficult and violent period.
