Arrow 2 can operate both within and outside the atmosphere, while Arrow 3 is designed for interception outside the atmosphere. Interception outside the atmosphere provides more response time and reduces the risk of missile debris falling over Israeli territory. The defense system is also complemented by the Iron Dome, which is mainly for short-range threats, and the David's Sling system, which is for medium-to-long-range threats.
