Israeli innovation: A blood test for detecting lung cancer

Researchers from Tel Aviv University have developed a new blood test.
It looks for chemical markers that lung cancer cells leave in the blood.
The researchers estimate that the test will cost about $60, and results can be available within two to three days.
The study involved 103 people.

51 of them had lung cancer, and 52 were healthy. Among patients in stages 2 to 4, the test identified 93.1% of cases. Among the healthy individuals, it provided a correct result in 90.3% of cases.
The researchers hope that the test will help doctors determine if a suspicious sign on a lung scan is truly related to cancer. It may also indicate whether the treatment is working. However, the study was small, and the method needs to be tested on more people before doctors can use it routinely.
